An imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope (IACT) is a Cherenkov detector that images gamma rays by detecting Cherenkov radiation in the atmosphere generated by relativistic particles produced by the interaction of incoming high-energy gamma-ray photons interacting with atmospheric molecules, then processing the collected data to produce images.
